exploring

This morning on a whim I jumped in the car and decided to check out some of the towns and back roads in the area I now call home. My first stop of the day was Bangalow, just outside of Byron Bay, which is home to the super cute Onefineday Handmade, a shop that's been on my 'must visit' list for quite some time. It was so lovely to see products from Able & Game and and o design on the shelves, though it did make me feel a little homesick! Right next door to Onefineday is Heath's Old Wares & Collectibles, I've never seen so many old ladders, wood crates, and wicker baskets in the one place. A bit pricey for this op shop loving girl but it's good to know there's somewhere like this not too far away just in case I have a market stall display crisis.

On the way out of Bangalow I stopped at a garage sale and picked up a perfect Pyrex bowl for the bargain price of $2.

I then detoured to Stokers Siding, and spent a considerable amount of time rummaging through this vintage store, and the attached fabric store. I came away with a very cute frock and a bag of vintage buttons which cost me 4 cents each. Yes, 4 cents! At Heath's the buttons were $1 each, so you can imagine my excitement at this find.

Even the mailboxes up here are gorgeous.

My final stop for the day was the tiny town of Uki, where someone I had met a couple of weeks ago recognised me and stopped for a chat. It's so nice to feel part of something despite only having been here for a few short weeks.

I'm back home now surrounded by the forest, alas I did come home to find a million or so flying bugs *inside* the house. I have no idea how they got there, and apparently they are only meant to come out at night, but here they are, covering the doors and windows and making me hide in the study. There's still a bit of city girl in me it seems.
